20 Feb The Amalfi Coast: A View You’ll Never Forget
On this full day bespoke driving tour, you will discover one of the most scenic roads in southern Italy, with its rocky cliffs, breathtaking views, and quaint villages. Beginning at your accommodations, your expert driver and guide will pick you up to begin your adventure of the Amalfi Coast – one of the most picturesque areas in the world. Located on the southern flanks of the Sorrento Peninsula not far from Naples, it is by far Italy’s most scenic stretch of coastline. Throughout the day, you will follow the infamous SS163 highway that threads along the cliffs high above the waves of the sea crashing against the shore below, making stops to explore the most stunning old-world villages along the way.
First, you will visit the enchantingly luxurious town of Positano, surrounded by bright bougainvillea dancing along the colorful buildings. Its pebble beach is lined with comfortable lounge chairs, inviting you to relax to the sounds of the sea waves and its narrow pedestrian-only streets are lined with elegant boutiques, where you can get your ‘Positano chic style’ look on (typically these clothes made of white linen often decorated with bright colored shells and embroidery). In the center of the village stands the Byzantine era Santa Maria Assunta church and the enclave is surrounded by a variety of hiking trails that offer some of the most spectacular views you can conjure. Not to mention, having some of the best seafood of your life in one of the many wonderful restaurants along the beach that offer heavenly seafood pulled straight from the ocean, freshly-made pasta and tomatoes grown in rich volcanic soil.
Next, you will take a stroll through the narrow streets of the medieval town of Amalfi, where you can visit the 9th-century cathedral of St. Andrew perched 63 steps above the center of the town.
Once a maritime superpower, Amalfi is now a small sleepy town filled with sun-soaked piazzas. Whether you are visiting the Byzantine-era cathedral, strolling the small winding streets lined with local shops stopping to perhaps have a pair of handcrafted custom–made Italian leather sandals made to measure, dripping in Swarovski crystals. You can actually pop out and do more shopping while you wait for them to be crafted. Maybe visit the lemon emporium for lemon goodies like candles, limoncello, chocolate, body care products, ceramic, and even table linen…great to take home as gifts!
Your guided adventure along the Italian Riviera will finish with a visit to the peaceful town of Ravello. Perched 365 meters above the Tyrrhenian Sea, the views from the town of Ravello are sure to take your breath away. Here you can stroll along the famous Walk of the Gods that winds through the iconic cliffside gardens and pergolas of Villa Rufolo while enjoying the town’s rich medieval-era history. The atmospheric landscape as far as the eye can see frames one of the most charming and peaceful escapes along the Neapolitan Riviera.
